After Mr. Vinij Lertrattanachai unveiled the press conference for the upcoming boxing match between two global legends of the sport, “Manny Pacquiao” and “Floyd Mayweather,” in the event titled “THE MATCH OF PHANTOMS,” using international boxing rules, with 6 rounds lasting 2 minutes each, it marks the first international bout for “Floyd Mayweather” who had dreamt of facing the international boxing idol, “Manny Pacquiao.” This announcement follows Manny Pacquiao’s return to the ring after announcing his retirement in 2021, and a recent loss to the Cuban boxer Yordenis Ugas, the WBA (Super) welterweight champion.
Pacquiao is now ready to take on the challenge from the top Thai boxing star, Buakaw, which has created excitement worldwide. While pitting two boxing legends with different styles and disciplines against each other is not a new concept, the matchup between Pacquiao and Buakaw is indeed unexpected.
“THE MATCH OF PHANTOMS” is poised to rekindle the global boxing scene and bring back the legendary fighters to the spotlight. There have been rumors of a rematch between Pacquiao and his friend, “Floyd Mayweather,” and this fight is in line with that, which took place in 2015 and was one of the most valuable fights of the century, worth approximately 400 million US dollars. In that fight, Pacquiao lost on points to Mayweather. The prospect of a Pacquiao-Mayweather rematch is now back in the limelight, but whether it materializes or not depends on Mayweather, who currently seems more interested in showcasing his skills rather than focusing on the outcome.
Nonetheless, it’s uncertain whether Pacquiao’s invitation to Mayweather to observe the fight against Buakaw in 2024 will ignite Mayweather’s desire to follow in his friend’s footsteps and face the Thai boxing legend “Buakaw” in a boxing match to create a new chapter in the global boxing scene.
